AVAILABLE TRAININGS
Recovery-Focused Peer Support Specialist Training: Register Here
Who: Recovery Communities of North Carolina (RCNC)

What: RCNCs training team will be facilitating the 2nd Certified Recovery-Focused Peer Support training in Wake County beginning in March 2020.  This curriculum is the first of its kind in the state of North Carolina with the primary focus being on recovery from substance use disorders.  There is also a significant amount of material in the curriculum that is included which speaks to co-occurring mental health conditions and it’s connection to substance use disorders.  We believe those who take this training will be better able to be of service as Peer Support Specialists to those struggling with addiction and will also in the process, be more aware of their own needs for self-care and support.  We graduated our first team of Recovery-Focused Peer Support Specialist in December 2019.  All have either received their certification or are finishing up their RCA requirement to do so.

For your information, the acceptance process into the training program has changed.  We are now requiring that every potential participant complete an application and return to my attention asap.  Once your application is approved, you will receive a call from me to review your application and be vetted for appropriateness.  There will be no fee for this particular cohort training, thanks to the support, generosity and a grant provided by Wake County Department of Public Health.  That may not be the case in the future.

We have room for 35 participants for this second cohort and everyone who attends will need to have taken the Recovery Coach Academy or plan to shortly thereafter this training.  It is a requirement for certification that you take both this CPSS training AND RCNCs  (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy Training.  If you have not been trained as a Recovery Coach but would like to take the training with us, please let me know.  We are scheduling a training sometime in late April or May (dates have not yet been selected).    I look forward to hearing back from interested parties as soon as possible. Please share with those you think might benefit from this professional certification training.

Why: Based on the input of many potential trainees who wish to take the training but who cannot attend five days in a row due to employment restrictions, not enough vacation time, or limited flexibility, RCNC will be providing this state of the art training over 5 weeks, one day a week on Fridays. The training dates are listed below.

When:  9am-4pm
•        March 13th

•        March 20th
•        March 27th
•        April 3rd
•        April 10th

Messaging and Stigma Training: Register Here

What: Social stigma has kept recovery voices silent for decades. Research has shown that messaging shifts can open attitudes toward addiction as a disease and recovery as a real thing. This course, developed by Faces and Voices of Recovery, will provide techniques on how to discuss addiction and recovery with family, employers, friends, service providers, the general public and the media.

This training is designed for those in recovery, recovery allies, professionals working in the recovery field and community members wishing to learn about the language of recovery.

When:  Wednesday March 25, 2020
             3pm-5pm
Where: YouthWorx on Main
             117 W. Main St.
